Outside most Brazilian 2012 dictionaries, customizar appears in theCaldas Aulete,of Lusitanian origin, very succinctly and with the exception that the word is not well accepted, since that we have the wordpersonalizar, in Portuguese.
For those who do searches on Google, however, the word is quite commonplace.
In the sense of customize, the term must have come from the Englishcustomize, which meansmake something according to customer specifications(the word for space"> cliente, in English, iscustomer).
But it may have come, nonstop, directly from the French custome, which means costumeand which was adopted in Brazil as it stands to name the suit without the vest or skirt set and coat (also called tailleur). That's because the oldest and even more frequent use of the word customize in Portuguese is related to the world of fashion, to indicate clothes bought ready-made and then modified to be different and exclusive. This is customization in the most perfect sense ofcustomization– and that can also be applied to other products, such as automobiles.
